day 1: travel

non c'è niente foto oggi

no photos from the first day, which was solely travel. things that happened that day:

• went to the airport with the 'rents and Carolyn. it was snowing. said goodbyes, got on plane
• arrived in Philadelphia. steeled myself for 7 hour layover. watched an episode of Lost on my computer. called Carolyn from a pay phone. waited, read some, waited.
• met Boss Meg at the gate. went down the concourse to get some food. met Fenton at the food court because he spotted my Michigan Classics hoodie
• after quite some time, boarded the plane. tried to get some sleep. generally failed.

tomorrow i'll actually have got there!

p.s. quote from that other blog that i once had: "my travels were mostly uneventful. had a 7 hour layover in Philly. managed to get some sleep on the plane, despite the man one row ahead of me who was convinced that the only way he could get through the flight was to go to sleep and that the only way he could get to sleep was by constantly pestering the stewardess for alcohol. being drunk only made him loud, not sleepy, and once as he stumbled down the aisle he somehow planted his hand right in my face, which gave me quite the shock seeing as i was sound asleep."

so. here's what this is and how it's going to work. one year ago today, i set out to fly to rome for four months at the centro. (can it possibly be that long ago?) while i was there, i attempted to keep some sort of blog/journal/thingy, but it fizzled out. i mean, come on, i was distracted by other things. but i did keep a very good record in photo form, and now i'm going to use them to try to relive the best semester ever.

here's the format i'm going to work with. each day will have:

1. la foto più bella (best photo of the day)
2. i menzioni d'onore (honorable mentions, for days that there are lots of pictures)
3. links to that day's full archive on my flickr site
4. stories, anecdotes, whatever i can remember

so, here goes. onward to the memories!
